LETTER:Florida COVID Stats

Aaron Levenstein said “Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive. But what they conceal is vital.”

An Oct. 29 letter to the editor regarding Florida’s COVID-19 statistics is revealing in what it fails to show.

While Florida’s case rate has declined dramatically from the delta wave peak, its death rate is 277 per 100,000.

Washington’s death rate is 113 per 100,000, CDC, Nov. 2.

Florida’s per-capita rate of reported COVID-19 deaths has been higher than any other state this summer.

We can debate the pros and cons of vaccine and mask mandates with regards to personal liberties, livelihoods and the economy.

But with regards to deaths, maybe Florida’s elected officials should follow the letter writer’s advice and reexamine policies that do not work in light of evidence.

Anything else would be denying science.
