Tickets now on sale for Music on the Strait series

PORT ANGELES — Tickets went on sale Monday for this year’s Music on the Strait

The annual classical music series features two concerts at the Field Arts and Events Hall, on Aug. 1 and Aug. 10, and two in Maier Hall at Peninsula College, on Aug. 3 and Aug. 9.

Tickets for the shows at Maier Hall are $40 per person, $10 for students; the performances at Field Hall will cost $25 to $50 per person and $5 to $10 for students.

For opening night, Aug. 1, pianist Jeremy Denk will perform Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio, the chamber version of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto and Charles Ives’ “Concord” Sonata.

Denk will be accompanied by Stefan Jackiw, violin; James Garlick, violin; David Auerbach, viola; and Efe Baltacıgil, cello.

On Aug. 3, Stefan Jackiw will perform Dvorak’s “American” quartet, Ravel’s Duo for Violin and Cello and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Clarinet Quintet.

Jackiw will be joined by Efe Baltacigil, principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony, for the Ravel and by Yoonah Kim on the Clarinet Quintet as well as by Garlick and Auerbach.

The Aug. 9 performance features violist Richard O’Neill playing JS Bach’s Suite in C major, BWV 1009; Paul Wiancko’s American Haiku for Viola and Cello; and Erno Dohnanyi’s Serenade for String Trio, Op 10.

Wiancko, Music on the Strait’s composer-in-residence, will join him on the cello along with Garlick.

The festival’s finale will feature pianist Joyce Yang performing some of Sergei Rachmaninov’s Preludes for Solo Piano, Judd Greenstein’s K’Zohar Harakia, Wiancko’s Closed Universe for Solo Cello, Piano Quartet & Glockenspiel and Antonin Dvorák’s Piano Trio in E minor, Op 90 ‘Dumky.’

Yang will be accompanied by Garlick, violin; Ayane Kozasa, viola; Wiancko, cello and glockenspiel; and Baltacıgil, cello.
